When my brother, Neale, and I began our careers in Northern Virginia’s telecom industry in the 1990s, the life of the American worker was undergoing a profound shift.
Before that time, a person could expect to get a good job out of high school or college, learn everything they needed to know on the job, have meaningful career pathways without having to switch employers and even stay at a single company until retirement.
