The Impact of Data Centers on the State and Local Economies of Virginia
This report, prepared by Mangum Economics for the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), explores the impact of the data center industry on the economy of Virginia in 2021. The report provides a broad overview of how investment in data centers benefits the state economy, from the creation of new jobs to increases in tax revenue and secondary economic development. Building on this statewide analysis, the report takes a closer look at the benefits of data centers in several local economies across Virginia, including Prince William and Loudoun County in Northern Virginia; Henrico and Hampden Roads in Central and Coastal Virginia; Wise County and Harrisonburg in the Valley and Western Virginia; and Mecklenburg in Southern Virginia.
